Settlement of $725,000 Reached in Fobbs v. New Haven Unified School District Lawsuit

(Hayward, CA – June 23, 2011) Today, Oakland civil rights Attorney Pamela Y. Price of Price And Associates held a press conference at NAACP offices to announce the terms of a $725,000 settlement in the Fobbs, et al v. New Haven Unified School District (NHUSD), et al class action lawsuit. The settlement, approved at the NHUSD school board meeting on Tuesday, June 21st, includes thirteen (13) remedial policies and programs to be implemented by the District in an effort to curb racial violence against African-American youth in their schools.

(Oakland, CA – June 23, 2011) Following the June 23, 2011 press conference, the New Haven Unified School District ("NHUSD") issued a press release stating that the announcement of a settlement was premature and that the Plaintiffs’ contentions were false. Attorney Price issued the following statement in response. Not only was the case settled and acknowledged on the record before the Court, but settlement checks were due for delivery from the NHUSD by June 28, and, in fact, delivered by the NHUSD on June 28, 2011.

(Oakland, CA – April 8, 2011) In 1977, when a student at Yale University, Oakland based civil rights plaintiff attorney Pamela Y. Price, Esq. joined the landmark case Alexander v. Yale, the first sexual harassment case brought under Title IX. Over thirty years later, this case was cited by 2011 complainants as their inspiration to pursue a new Title IX complaint against Yale, resulting in a federal investigation by the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, announced last week.
