Attorney Pamela Y. Price has once again joined with the world’s first and largest charity sports training program, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training. On March 28, 2010, Price will join nearly 8,000 others in the City of Oakland’s first marathon in 25 years, the Oakland Running Festival. This weekend-long event will kick off on Saturday evening with a Twilight 5K Race at Lake Merritt. The Festival also includes a Health and Fitness Expo at the Oakland Marriott City Center Hotel all day on Saturday.
Attorney Price will run a half-marathon (13.1 miles) as a proud member of Team Tenacious Raji, in honor of Brenda Donato, Raji Watawala and “Mama Lisa” Felder, three ‘tenaciously strong’ women. Her team is one of several teams trained by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society this year. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training is dedicated to raising money to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma. Leukemia is the number one disease killer of children between 1 and 14. Every 5 minutes, someone is diagnosed with blood cancer. Founded in 1949, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has funneled more than $100 million to research to find the cure; only 25% of the funds it raises go toward covering its overhead expenses.
Starting off at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, Price and 8,000 other runners and walkers will start out at Frank Ogawa Plaza (14th and Broadway), run down Broadway, race along Piedmont and College Avenues, pass by the lovely Lake Temescal before heading up the hills of Montclair. After taking in magnificent views of the Bay’s cities, the runners will journey through the lively neighborhoods of Fruitvale, Chinatown, and historic Jack London Square. A final lap around dazzling Lake Merritt, and a sprint to the finish at City Hall will wrap up the race.
Come party in Oakland and join Price and Associates in cheering on Attorney Price and the thousands of racers on Sunday, March 28th in this historic event!!!
